Keep It All The Year Long

Well another Christmas has come and gone.  I got a lot of great things, a new computer to write on, a kindle to read books on.  I got a some wonderful clothing, socks, and movies.  It is so exciting to get wonderful presents and enjoy time with family.  We had wonderful food and and good conversation.  We watched movies and football and had wonderful family time.

On Saturday afternoon we went to church and enjoyed a wonderful service.  We sang and worshiped as we celebrated Jesus' birthday.  That was our chance to truly remember what the season is all about.  The ending of the service when we sing Joy to the world is truly wonderful.  I sing out so loud when we hit that part because I want to express my love and gratitude for what God gave us on Christmas day.  There are so many people in church that day.  People come from all over to be in church on Christmas Eve.

The thing is they do the same thing during the Easter season as well.  They are here for Easter and Christmas, but what happens the rest of the year?  People have a tendency to disappear from church.  God seems to take a back seat in their lives to the hustle and bustle of everyday life.  It truly is a shame.  I wish people would realize just how important it is to have God in your life the whole year and not just on the holidays that are the polar opposites of his life, the beginning and the end.  It is kind of fitting that that is when they choose to come but it also very sad.

In the Christmas Carol, when Scrooge realizes what he has done wrong all his life and decides to make a change, one on the lines is that he lived everyday keeping Christmas in his heart:

"and it was always said of him, that he knew how to keep Christmas well, if any man alive possessed the knowledge. May that be truly said of us, and all of us! And so, as Tiny Tim observed, God bless Us, Every One! "

Scrooge kept Christmas in his heart all the year long in the sense of taking care of the poor and hungry, taking care of society, which my not have been worship of Jesus but it truly was a good way to live.  We must keep Jesus in our heart all the year long and keep him close to us.  We must do it all the year long instead of twice a year.  We must not be Chiseasters.  People that only go to church on Christmas and Easter.  We must keep it close to us in our hearts always.

God bless us, everyone!
