Direct line to God

Sometimes I wish there was a direct line to God.  You know what I mean?  I mean being able to pick up the phone and speak directly to God.  You could ask questions and get answers.  He could help us understand why things happen to us and how to get through them.  I have a lot going on in life right now and I would love to pick up my phone, dial God's digits and hit him up for some 411.  That would definitely make life a lot easier to understand.

Sadly that isn't an option.  God doesn't have a phone number or a pager like in Bruce Almighty.  Nope you can't tweet him, facebook him, email him, or call him.  There is no direct line of communication with God.  Wait a second, that last statement is definitely wrong.  There is a direct line to God.  The problem is that people forget to use it.  That direct line is prayer.  Through prayer we can talk directly to God and he does answer us.  Okay its not the same as picking up the phone and hearing his voice but he does answer our prayers.

When we prayer, we are asking God for help for so many different things.  Some of them are personal while others are for people we know and the world in general.  The thing is people believe that they are going to get an automatic answer from God and on top of that they believe that they are going to get what they are asking for.  That is not how it works, in fact often the answer we get is not the one we want. God puts people, places, and things in our lives in answer to prayer.  He provides us with quiet time to come up with answers to problems.  There are so many ways that God helps us without having to directly say anything at all.

I often tell my youth that they are so lucky to have the mentors they have in youth group.  Adults that are willing to listen, help, and prayer for and with them.  A lot of youth don't have that in their lives.  They don't have adults, that aren't their parents, that are willing to play a role in their lives and listen to them and love them.  God has put them in their lives to help them through the tough time known as the teenage years.

We all have a direct link to God.  He is giving us the 411.  All I can say is that we need to be patient, listen for what he is saying to us, and understand that what we want is not always the answer.  The biggest thing is that we will never get the answer if we don't first make the call!
